NYSCI – Noticing Tools Privacy Policy

The New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) takes your privacy and the privacy of your students and children very seriously. Here are details about our commitment to ensuring the privacy and security of personally identifiable information and content created using our products. NYSCI’s overall Privacy Policy is here:Ā http://nysci.org/privacy-policy/.

What information do we collect?

We do not collect any personal information from you or your students when you download and install one of our iPad apps from the Apple App Store.

We require and collect a valid email address and password to access additionalĀ features and content on the Noticing website.

How do we handle students recording photos and videos of themselves in the apps?

Our apps enable students to use photos and videos in creative projects, and the output is saved in the app and can be saved to the iPad’s Camera Roll. It is the responsibility of individual users to decide how that content is treated once it is stored locally on a device.

Teachers can create a randomly-generated class code, student first and last name for students to upload work product (i.e. photo, video, report) from the iPad app to the Noticing website where only the student’s teacher has access to the student work. This code is also saved by NYSCI. Ā Teachers can also instruct students to use other means of identifying their work (e.g. initials, teacher-assigned identifiers) when filling in these fields.

Teachers can add notes and tags to student work products on the teacher website.

How do we handle Location Data?

We do not collect geographic location data.

Sharing information

We do not and share personally identifiable information (such as name, address, email or phone) with third parties.

If you create an account on thisĀ teacher website, we will not share your email address with anyone.

Do marketing companies collect your data?

We do not allow advertising or marketing companies to collect data through the apps for ad targeting or any form of advertising or marketing.

Do we track user data for analytics tracking?

We collect anonymous data about usage of our iPad apps and website to better understand how our products are used so we can improve the overall experience. We use Flurry Analytics (http://www.flurry.com/solutions/analytics) to track usage of the iPad applications, and Google Analytics (http://www.google.com/analytics/) Ā the industry standard platform for securely analyzing application usage.
