Teaching STEM Through Art and Design with Noticing Tools™  PD is an easy way to empower your teachers to bring 21st century learning to their classrooms. This course is ideal for educators in grades 3 – 8 who teach mathematics, art, science, technology, ELA or STEM/STEAM. The course will run from January 9 through February 6,2017.

This new course uses the innovative, pedagogical approach of Design-Make-Play to help teachers integrate art and design into their STEM curriculums, sparking creativity and interdisciplinary learning. Teachers learn how to use hands-on design activities and NYSCI’s Noticing Tools™, a groundbreaking suite of iPad apps, to empower their students to make mathematical and scientific discoveries. They will discover how to integrate storytelling with STEM, and how to emphasize core science and mathematical concepts as students design and create expressive works. The course will also demonstrate how digital art and design projects can support Common Core Mathematics Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.

The course is entirely online and do-at-your-own-pace. New content will be released each week during the 4 weeks of the course but there are no deadlines between the start and end date. Content includes videos, readings, discussion forums, and engaging iPad based activities that participants can try at home. The course is designed to take 10-14 hours to complete, and certificates are available upon course completion.
