The most common mistake made when using the Distance Formula is to accidentally mismatch the x-values and y-values. Have students repeat counting each set of movements of their animated character. By doing so, they can begin to notice that counting units horizontally is the same as calculating x2– x1 in the distance formula (same with y2-y1. In the vertical direction).
