One of the bells/whistles helped my students with the understanding was the ‘turtle’ button that slows down the motion so that students can see exactly when the speed or direction changes.

This slowdown works well in the graph drawer where they can compare the graphed speeds and distances vs. the actual motion occurring with the subject.
