When a video is captured for the Playground Physics app, to assist with the accuracy of data collection, a Size/caliper tool is used to determine the actual scale of the actions being viewed. It is important for the students to have something visible in the video to use as a prop. It is recommended to have a meter stick held in the background. If you have small groups, the meter stick can be left in the background or you can use one persons’ height. If you have sidewalk chalk, you can bring one meter stick and have a student measure different parts of the playground and mark the one meter (from the ground) point. There are many ways to include the size/caliper tool. Experiment with a few ideas and choose what works best for you.
